A peaceful race of people who seem almost child-like. Kokiri never mature the way a hylian or human would and instead retain their child-like appearance. They each have a fairy to aid them and such during the day and are guarded by the Great Deku Tree, an ancient being of great power. Due to the evil of Ganondorf the great Deku Tree died during the first age from a curse. In it's place came a sapling which would grow to be a Deku Tree of it's own right and protect the Kokiri once more

Link 1st originally believed himself to be kokiri however the deku sapling reveals this to be untrue, Link is a hylian hid in Kokiri by his mother for his own safety and protection. Link grows up to leave Kokiri and discovers his true destiny as the hero of time. Legend says a Kokiri who leaves the forest dies.
